The old Urania cinema is one of the many cinemas built in the early 20th century located in the urban blocks of the entire lower city of Zagreb. The opening of large multiplex cinemas has led in recent decades to the gradual disappearance of these old movie theaters, which, neglected and empty, have begun to decline.

Urania is located in the back of the block on Kvaternik Square. Although built in 1939, the entire structure is very well preserved, along with all the supporting columns, the main arches in the large hall and all the ceilings. Ceilings are a special example of the first concrete structures with longitudinal narrow structural ribs from this period. That fine example of early concrete technology engineering was worth preserving and restoring.

In spite of its age, the former cinema building had good predispositions to reconstruct its new purpose and become a public and office space. Three of the four existing volumes were retained in the reconstruction: the former cinema entrance area and ancillary offices, a large lobby with a three-story ceiling height and a main cinema hall. The new volume represents a glass pavilion that previously served as an entrance to the cinema. The biggest challenge was to transform the space of the former cinema hall, a basilic cross-section with a nine-meter-high medium-sized nave and two three-meter-wide lateral naves without a natural light, into a functional work space. The nine-meter-long medium-sized boat is divided into two floors. The lower floor is provided by the conversion of the side yards of the cinema hall into the outer atriums. Upstairs the light was brought over the roof, the entire length of the hall was glazed with a width of three meters.

Most of the original structural materials have been retained with minimal interventions - original brick walls, raw plaster, concrete on floors and ceilings; while all new equipment is made of three materials - oak for floors and spruce veneer and raw steel for wall cladding and interior joinery.

The new Urania will contain a public space for various workshops, lectures and similar cultural events, as well as several office spaces. A polyvalent public space equipped with multimedia and a small grandstand is connected to a bistro with a patio and a roof terrace. In the future, it will be the meeting place of the local cultural and business community, and a venue for numerous events such as educational workshops, presentations, exhibitions, concerts, screenings, etc.

Another Clima Forum 2019. has finished - The 7th Forum on Cooling, Air Conditioning and Ventilation, held on October 22nd - 23rd in Rovinj, Hotel 'Eden'. In addition to many interesting exhibitors in the field of Cooling, Ventilation and Air Conditioning, various interesting lectures were also held.

We had the opportunity to explore the interior of the newly opened luxury Grand Park Hotel Rovinj, which delights with its impressive building,and we also took a professional tour of thermo-technical

installations and equipment and presented the project of the hotel itself.

Our director, Mrs. Marina Poljak and our Head of the Air Conditioning Department, Mr. Igor Strbad, with the TDC / Kampmann / Sonniger / Burda showroom were at the core of the event.

Join us at the upcoming Forum - TDC d.o.o. proud co-organizer of the Clima-Forum 2017.

Clima-Forums are held bi-annually. The first Clima-Forum was held in 2007 in Zadar, which was the venue also in 2009 and 2011, while in 2013 and 2015 the venue was Zagreb. The venue in 2017 is chosen to be Osijek. The programme in 2017 will again last for two days and will be divided into five or six thematic sections (chapters).

Clima-Forum is a central place for the exchange of knowledge, experiences and opinions in the field of refrigeration, ventilation and air-conditioning and all the related fields. Accordingly, Clima-Forum gathers all those for which the heating, cooling, ventilation and air-conditioning are parts of their everyday work or who come with these fields in connection such as designers, installers and repairmen of the cooling, ventilation and air-conditioning equipment, managers and owners of the refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment, consultants, developers and investors in the projects, representatives of the producer and traders of cooling, ventilation and air-conditioning equipment, scientists and researchers and students from higher education institutions, representatives of the relevant state and inspection authorities and institutions from the field of the construction and environmental protection and many others.

In addition, as an ambitious program of energy renovation of buildings for various purposes (family houses, residential, public, commercial, industrial and of tourist buildings, etc.) has currently been implemented, at the Clima-Forum 2017 a round table will be held about that topic and will gather representatives of the relevant state authorities and institutions (ministries, funds, etc.), designers and constructors.

Again this year the leading companies in the field of air conditioning actually combination of water and energy were present  in Frankfurt. ISH trade fair was very satisfing  - statistics say it included 2,482 exhibitors aswell as 200,114 visitors.

Plus X Award: Kampmann awarded quality seal for three product solutions

With over 130 members on the judging panel from 32 countries and a variety of industries, the Plus X Award is the world's largest innovation prize for technology, sport and lifestyle. The quality seals are awarded in seven different categories – Innovation, High Quality, Design, Ease of Use, Functionality, Ergonomics and Ecology. The prerequisite for an award is that the product must be of the highest quality, be functional and its design must be leading-edge. Product engineering focussed on users' needs is also important to the judging panel.

Success

The Plus X Award is an important award for Kampmann GmbH. Once again it underscores the company's outstanding innovative prowess. On November 10th 2016 we have participated in the 10th Career Fair at the Public Open University Zagreb. Considering the good organization, opening ceremony and numerous exhibitors of course the response of the future employees was not absent. The advances in technology within trench heating and cooling has allowed consultants to design more sophisticated heating and cooling systems within modern buildings.  With this in mind, it has become necessary to formulate a new testing standard aimed at trench heating and cooling. The new testing standard is the BS EN 16430 “Fan assisted radiators, convectors and trench convectors”. This standard has far reaching implications for the building services industry. Finally trench heating and trench cooling systems of different manufacturers are comparable with each other. This new standard will provide planning security for these systems to consultants and architects.

This new standard consists of the three parts:

Part 1: Technical specifications and requirements,
Part 2: Test method and rating for thermal output,
Part 3: Test method and rating for cooling capacity,

and should have been given the status of a national standard in all EU-member states by June 2015 latest.

The aim of the BS EN 16430 is to determine

• performance data, to allow a like for like comparison between different products of different manufacturers.
• provide technical data for the design of the systems according to the project-specific requirements.

The new standard not only deals with the thermal performance of a unit. Also the quality of the products itself will be looked at. This includes e.g. the requirement of pressure testing of all coils/convectors and electrical and mechanical safety of the units according to the EN 60335-2-80 and EN ISO 12499. For fan assisted units, the manufacturers have to test and publish noise power data at various fan speeds. This is a significant information, as units should be selected against the thermal requirements of the project, not exceeding the noise criteria in this project. Latest EC-fan-technology allows the use of fan assisted units, even in residential buildings with strictest noise requirements. The thermal performance test will be carried out in a test chamber, known from the BS EN 442, dealing with radiators and convectors. As with the BS EN 442 the new BS EN 16430 for trench systems bases all thermal performances on the reference air temperature. This is a temperature measured 2 metres away from the perimeter, in a height of 750mm above finished floor level. This makes sure that the products provide the performance in the area occupied by persons. Do not mix the reference air temperature with the entering air temperature into the coil. Specially in cooling mode, there can be a significant difference between these two temperatures, ending with the conditions in the occupied area being very different from what expected from your client.

To make sure, the products you selected are in line with the BS EN 16430, the actual testing standard for trench heating and trench cooling systems, please ask the manufacturer for the CE Declaration of conformity for the product. The BS EN 16430 should be mentioned in this document, if the units are tested in accordance.

Kampmann is granted officially vested property right

The European Patent Office has now granted the European patent for the ProtecTor. Following the application, the unit underwent the required examination for patentability and was then granted the officially vested property right.

Efficient Tandem technology

The unique feature of the ProtecTor air curtain is its air flow. The ProtecTor features two juxtaposed outlet nozzles that focus the airflow for targeted discharge and avoid inefficient air turbulence. An unheated ambient air stream acts as a back-up air stream and automatically adapts to the air volume of the heated air stream when the fan speed changes.

The ambient air stream cannot penetrate the heated air or escape to the outside. The ambient air stream has a higher flow rate than the heated air stream, as the ambient air stream does not pass through the heat exchanger like conventional systems. The ambient air stream thus acts like a back-up air stream, aiding the stability of the air stream and providing for greater penetration depth.

Significant potential energy savings

The unique design of the ProtecTor door air curtain requires lower heat outputs to provide the same screening effect, thereby achieving energy savings of up to 38 % compared to conventional systems.

In the interests of acting sustainably, Kampmann GmbH is supporting the trend towards cooling media that have low potential to cause global warming. In this context, the use of water in particular as the heat transfer medium in the building makes it possible to provide environmentally responsible air conditioning. H2O has a global warming potential (GWP1) of zero, meaning it has a uniquely low greenhouse effect. Unlike other "natural" refrigerants, moreover, water is neither toxic nor inflammable.

An air conditioning system for buildings that uses a medium such as water to transfer the cooling energy has enormous advantages over extensive direct evaporation pipe systems that require large quantities of refrigerant. 

Versatile to use

Since they use water as the medium, chilled water air conditioning systems can be readily extended with a wide range of products. It is, thus, very easy to integrate components with high ecological value such as CHP units, wood fired boilers and solar-driven heat generators and chillers, as well as a large number of different terminal appliances.

Advantageously priced

In selecting this system, while its installation costs are similar to those of a direct evaporation system, the primary focus will be on its running costs. The lower volume of refrigerant required, the overall efficiency and the opportunity to integrate resource efficient systems all argue in favour of chilled water air conditioning systems. 

Sustainable in terms of procurement

Since legislators are making high demands of air conditioning systems in terms of ecological compatibility, regulations have been developed that prescribe a minimum standard of energy efficiency and that limit or prohibit the use of various refrigerants. These requirements are constantly changing, meaning that the chillers themselves sometimes have to be replaced. With a chilled water system, it is significantly easier to adapt to changing conditions. 

Given the ecological and economic benefits of water-based cooling equipment, it is possible to provide affordable and environmentally responsible air conditioning for buildings, for today and for the future.

On 30/05/16, our installers who work in the OTIS Group, have successfully completed the theoretical and practical training in ASU OTIS at OTIS, Ismaning. They were detailed informed in theoretical instruction about the topics of labor safety and environmental protection. In the practical part the electricians have carried out the safe operation of the engine room training modules. Furthermore, all installers have tested their knowledge of the work and the procedure for safe entering the car roof and the pit, and have successfully passed. Even our CEO, Mr. Bauer has proved himself in the practical part.

With the closure of the training all of our elevator installers have received the OTIS ID card as proof of a successful completion of training. The OTIS ID card is needed for work on OTIS equipment and without it the work on equipment is not allowed.
We are pleased that we have this time also proved that the company OTIS has made the choice of TDC as your strategic partner is a good decision.
